Chief Adviser of the interim government, Prof. Muhammad Yunus, has congratulated Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, for what he described as a dignified performance in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.
In a message on Saturday, the Chief Adviser thanked the Jamaat leader for his party’s active and widespread participation in the election under his leadership, its strong contest, and its calm and respectful acceptance of the results.
“From the campaign period through to the post-results phase, your political courtesy, restraint, responsible statements, and calls to party activists to remain peaceful have played a significant role in maintaining overall stability in the country,” Yunus said.
He also expressed special thanks for the constructive support, advice, and cooperation extended by Jamaat-e-Islami to the interim government during its tenure.
Highlighting the current national context, Yunus said Bangladesh is passing through a crucial period marked by challenges and opportunities in areas such as the global economy, technological transformation, climate change, human resource development, and social justice.
“In this context, strengthening democracy to make it more participatory and institutionally robust requires responsible and principled roles from both the government and the opposition,” he said.
The Chief Adviser expressed hope that under Rahman’s leadership, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami would play an active role in parliament and the broader political arena as a constructive and responsible opposition force.
He added that healthy and positive political culture should be fostered through policy-based debates, legislative input, raising public expectations, and ensuring state accountability.
Yunus also voiced confidence that Rahman would continue the role he had previously played in consolidating national unity, emphasizing that unity remains the country’s strength.
Concluding his message, the Chief Adviser prayed to Almighty Allah for Rahman’s good health, long life, and overall well-being.
