Bangladesh Seeks India's Cooperation to Prevent Hasina from Using Indian Territory for Political Activities

Bangladesh has requested India's cooperation to ensure that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is not able to use Indian territory to deliver political statements or engage in activities aimed at creating instability in Bangladesh.

The issue was raised on Monday during a courtesy meeting between Humayun Kabir, Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister, and Dinesh Trivedi, India's newly appointed High Commissioner to Bangladesh, in Dhaka.

The meeting, held at the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon, focused on bilateral relations and a range of issues of mutual interest between the two neighboring countries.

During the discussions, Humayun Kabir told the Indian envoy that Bangladesh expects India's cooperation in ensuring that Sheikh Hasina, as well as individuals associated with organizations banned by Bangladesh, are not allowed to use Indian territory to make political statements or conduct activities intended to destabilize the country.

He said such activities could undermine the positive progress achieved in Bangladesh–India relations.

The issue was discussed amid recent reports circulating on social media suggesting that Sheikh Hasina may deliver a public address on August 5.

In response, High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi said India would take the matter into due consideration, seek the necessary information, and remain attentive to the issue.

Both sides expressed optimism about further strengthening Bangladesh–India relations based on mutual respect, trust, and shared interests. They also emphasized the importance of maintaining regular dialogue and constructive engagement to deepen bilateral cooperation.
