Bangladesh’s economy could grow to $677 billion by 2030, surpassing the economies of countries such as Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand in terms of gross domestic product (GDP), according to a forecast by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The projection was highlighted in a report by Canadian media outlet Visual Capitalist titled “The $150 Trillion Global Economy in 2030.”

According to IMF projections cited in the report, Malaysia’s GDP is expected to reach $672.5 billion by 2030, while Vietnam’s economy could grow to $667.5 billion. Denmark and Thailand are projected to reach $589.2 billion and $647.5 billion, respectively.

The ranking is based on countries’ total GDP.

The United States is expected to remain the world’s largest economy in 2030, with its GDP projected to rise to around $37.7 trillion. China will retain the second position, with an economy of approximately $26 trillion.

The report also forecasts a close contest for the third-largest economy. Germany and India are projected to have GDPs of $6.178 trillion and $6.173 trillion, respectively—a difference of just $5 billion. The United Kingdom is expected to rank next, with a GDP of about $5.148 trillion.

The five largest economies are projected to account for 53.3% of global GDP, with the United States alone contributing more than a quarter of the world economy.

Japan, France, Brazil, Italy and Canada are also expected to remain among the world’s 10 largest economies in 2030.

The IMF is forecasting significant expansion of the global economy over the next four years. According to its World Economic Outlook projections, the global economy could expand by nearly $25 trillion between 2026 and 2030.

By 2030, the total size of the world economy could exceed $150 trillion, according to the forecast.
