United States Provides $2.4 Million in Medical Equipment to Strengthen Bangladesh’s Healthcare System

The United States is providing $2.4 million worth of medical equipment and health supplies to help strengthen Bangladesh's healthcare system, according to a statement issued by the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka on Monday.

As part of the assistance, U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen formally handed over maternal and newborn healthcare training models to Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman, Civil Surgeon of Panchagarh District Hospital.

According to the embassy, the broader U.S. assistance package includes equipment to help keep newborns warm and support infant breathing, therapeutic food for children suffering from severe acute malnutrition, and cold-chain equipment to maintain the effectiveness of vaccines.

The medical equipment and supplies are being distributed to hospitals and healthcare facilities across Bangladesh, including remote and underserved areas, through U.S.-funded implementing partners FHI 360, Jhpiego, JSI, and UNICEF.

The embassy said the initiative supports the implementation of the America First Global Health Strategy, which aims to strengthen health systems through practical partnerships while advancing U.S. innovation in global health.

The statement also reaffirmed the United States' commitment to working with the Government of Bangladesh to expand access to quality healthcare services across the country.
