Coal Supply Disruptions Reduce Power Supply from Adani’s Godda Plant to Bangladesh

Power supply to Bangladesh from Adani Power’s Godda power plant in India has been reduced due to disruptions in coal transportation caused by severe congestion on India’s railway network and multiple restrictions on freight loading, the company said on Wednesday.
In a statement, Adani Power said the movement of coal-carrying railway rakes to the Godda plant had been disrupted, resulting in lower-than-normal coal supplies and forcing the plant to temporarily adjust its power generation.
“Due to severe congestion on the railway network in India and multiple restrictions currently imposed on the loading of commodities in the transportation system, the movement of freight trains to Adani’s Godda plant is being disrupted,” the company said.
“As a result, the power plant is receiving less coal than normal, which has required generation to be temporarily limited or adjusted,” it added.
According to the statement, the plant has reduced electricity generation and supply somewhat during the daytime, when demand is relatively low, to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the evening peak-demand period.
Adani Power said it had informed the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) about the situation.
The company is also working closely with Indian Railways to restore the normal movement of coal-carrying railway rakes as quickly as possible, it said.
“We expect the situation to return to normal soon,” the statement said.
Adani Power added that it had taken all possible measures to maximise coal supplies to the plant during the disruption and minimise any potential impact on electricity supply to Bangladesh.
