Jamaat Ameer Accords Reception to Quran Recitation Competition Winners

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has emphasized the need to further encourage an integrated educational framework combining general studies with madrasa education. He made the remarks while felicitating four Bangladeshi huffaz who triumphed at the 46th King Abdulaziz International Quran Competition-2026 in Mecca.

The reception was hosted at the official residence of the Leader of the Opposition on Minto Road in the capital on Thursday. Addressing the event, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman noted that all four participants representing Bangladesh in this year's international Quran memorization competition secured victories at the Baitul Haram in Mecca, with one clinching first place and three others securing third place across different groups, bringing immense pride to the nation on the global stage.

Highlighting a disparity in state recognition, the opposition leader pointed out that while achievers in sports and cultural arenas receive state honors, Quran reciters have historically lacked similar initiatives. He urged the government to arrange prompt official receptions for the winners and demanded a respectful national felicitation for all past and present international Quran competition champions from Bangladesh.

Stressing that religious education serves as a vital medium for moral development, the Leader of the Opposition asserted that providing adequate governmental support to Qawmi educational institutions and hifzul Quran students is a rightful expectation rather than a favor. Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat Abdul Halim, Central Executive Council Member Shafiqul Islam Masud, and Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasah Acting Principal Dr. Khalilur Rahman Madani, among others, were present at the ceremony.
