A massive sinkhole suddenly formed in front of Bajira Hospital in the heart of Bangkok, causing major disruptions to traffic and utility services. Local authorities report that the sinkhole is approximately 50 meters (164 feet) deep and spans 900 square meters.

Videos circulating on social media show the road in front of the hospital gradually collapsing, with underground drainage pipes gushing water at high speed. The sinking ground is also pulling down electricity poles.

In response to the situation, Bajira Hospital announced that it would no longer admit new patients, although ongoing medical services inside the hospital remain operational.

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the site and told reporters that the ground had been gradually shifting due to underground metro rail construction work. Fortunately, no fatalities or injuries have been reported.

The Bangkok governor confirmed that the sinkhole caused a pipe to rupture, cutting off water and electricity lines. However, the hospital itself has not faced any major issues. Meanwhile, the nearby police station area remains dangerous, and residents have been evacuated.

Authorities have assured that the sinkhole’s expansion has been stopped, with expert teams continuously monitoring the movement of the ground and infrastructure. The incident has caused significant traffic jams in one of the busiest areas of the capital. Temporary disruptions in electricity, water, and telephone services have also been reported.
