Israeli forces detained the imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Mohammad Hussein, following Friday prayers at the mosque in occupied Jerusalem, according to the Palestinian state news agency WAFA.
The report said Sheikh Mohammad Hussein, who also serves as the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine, delivered the Friday sermon and led the congregational prayer at Al-Aqsa Mosque before being taken into custody by Israeli forces.
Local sources said the arrest took place shortly after the conclusion of the Friday prayers. However, Israeli authorities have not immediately disclosed the reason for his detention or his current whereabouts.
No further details were immediately available regarding the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
