Trump Envoys Meet Putin in Fresh Ukraine Peace Push

The United States has launched a fresh diplomatic push to end the war in Ukraine, with President Donald Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner holding a three-hour, 10-minute meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday.

Neither Russia nor the United States announced any major breakthrough following the meeting. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov described the talks as “constructive, very candid and trust-based,” saying the US envoys presented several ideas on possible ways to end the war, although he did not disclose details.

The discussions also covered potential large-scale economic projects between Russia and the United States, along with other issues of mutual interest.

A White House official described the meeting as meaningful, saying both sides discussed detailed plans for the next steps toward ending the war. Further announcements are expected in the coming weeks.

At the start of the meeting, Putin praised Trump’s efforts to end the conflict, saying the US president was continuing to seek a settlement despite the difficult circumstances.

As part of the diplomatic effort, Putin ordered a three-day halt to Russian attacks on Kyiv, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine was prepared to refrain from strikes on Moscow from Saturday through Monday.

Despite the limited pause, Russian attacks continued to cause casualties in Ukraine. Zelenskyy said 10 people were killed in Russian strikes across the country on Saturday, including a child and family members in the Kharkiv region.

Zelenskyy also accused Moscow of launching overnight attacks on two Kyiv airports and civilian facilities in an attempt to disrupt the US envoys’ visit.

Witkoff and Kushner’s Moscow trip marked their eighth visit to Russia since the war began. Their planned visit to Kyiv would be their first.

Trump said on Friday that his envoys were carrying a new proposal aimed at ending the war, but he did not reveal its details. Attention is now focused on whether their talks in Kyiv can produce progress after the Moscow meeting.
