Elon Musk demands Trump's eviction from office

Donald Trump and Elon Musk got into a big public fight online. Trump said he wants to stop giving government contracts and subsidies to Elon’s companies. Elon Musk replied by saying “Yes” to a post suggesting Trump should be impeached, as per reports.

Trump had earlier praised Musk and they had a good relationship. The fight started after Musk criticized Trump’s new tax and spending bill. Musk said the bill would increase U.S. debt, which is already at $36.2 trillion.

Trump got angry and said he’s “very disappointed” in Musk. Musk said he spent $300 million supporting Trump and Republicans last year. Musk also warned that Trump’s tariffs could cause warned that Trump’s tariffs could cause a U.S. recession. as per the Reuters reports.

After Trump’s threat, Tesla shares crashed 14.3% in one day, a $150 billion loss. Musk’s space company SpaceX could lose big government contracts if Trump follows through.

Impeachment starts if the President is blamed for doing very bad things like cheating or helping enemies. The House of Representatives then votes to decide if he should be impeached. A simple majority is enough. If impeached, the President still stays in office until the Senate holds a trial, as per reports.

House members act as prosecutors, the Chief Justice is the judge, and Senators are the jury. If two-thirds of Senators vote to convict, the President is removed. The Vice President then takes over as President. The decision can’t be appealed in federal courts, as per the Britannica report.

With only three US Presidents having seen impeachment attempts till 2025, the record of POTUS being dragged to courts is few and far between. However, they can be taken to courts after being removed as well. Till now, only Donald Trump, Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson have witnessed impeachment proceedings. None were convicted, as stated in the Britannica reports.
