Just hours after a high-level meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, former U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a strong message aimed at India.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump criticized the U.S.-India trade relationship, calling it “completely one-sided” and accusing India of being a “tariff abuser.”

“They [India] do massive business with us, exporting a huge volume of goods to our country. But we have almost no access to their markets. This is a totally one-sided relationship,” Trump stated.

He also expressed displeasure over India’s continued reliance on Russia for oil and defense equipment, noting that India imports most of its military hardware and energy from Russia, while importing very little from the U.S. “They’re now offering to reduce tariffs — but it’s too late. This should’ve been done years ago,” Trump added.

Analysts suggest that Trump's comments, coupled with his threat to impose up to 50% tariffs on Indian goods, could signal rising tensions in U.S.-India trade relations, especially amid growing India-Russia strategic ties.
