President Donald Trump has claimed credit for ending at least seven wars and, in return, sought the Nobel Peace Prize. However, the Nobel Committee did not recognize his efforts and instead awarded the prestigious prize to Venezuelan opposition leader, Maria Corina Machado.

Despite the committee’s decision, Maria clarified that the Nobel Committee had made a mistake. In her initial response, she dedicated the Peace Prize to Trump. Maria explained that, in the pursuit of freedom, she relied on the leadership of President Trump, the American people, Latin America, and the democratic countries of the world. She also added that she was dedicating the prize to her country's people and, at the same time, to Trump for his unwavering support of her goal.

This year, 338 nominations were submitted for the Nobel Peace Prize, including 94 nominations for various organizations. Among them was the name of President Donald Trump. However, the Nobel Committee ultimately awarded the prize to Maria Corina Machado.

The committee's chairman, Jörgen Watne Frydenlund, explained that Venezuela’s opposition, which had once been divided, was successfully united by Maria. She has worked for free elections and the establishment of a representative government, which is the reason she was awarded the Peace Prize.
