“It should happen quickly. They should agree very soon,” Trump told reporters. He warned that failure to reach a deal would lead to serious consequences. “We have to make a deal, otherwise the situation will be very serious,” he said.
Trump’s remarks came a day after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu said any agreement with Iran must go beyond limiting its nuclear activities and also address its ballistic missile program and its network of military alliances and militant groups across the Middle East.
According to Netanyahu, a deal focused solely on uranium enrichment levels and inspections would fail to address Israel’s security concerns if Iran’s missile capabilities and regional influence remain intact.
Meanwhile, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian accused Trump and Netanyahu of attempting to exploit recent protests in Iran to destabilize the government. He said Iran’s adversaries were seeking to create internal unrest after being blocked through external means.
Tensions between Washington, Tehran and Jerusalem have intensified in recent weeks amid renewed diplomatic efforts and regional instability.
