U.S. President Donald Trump appeared to shift his stance on India after sharing a controversial podcast by political commentator Michael Savage that drew criticism for its remarks about several countries.
In the podcast, Savage reportedly described India, China, and other nations in derogatory terms. He also claimed that citizens from two Asian countries travel to the United States to give birth within months, thereby securing automatic U.S. citizenship for their children under existing laws. The content was later shared by Trump on social media.
However, speaking on Thursday, Trump struck a more positive tone toward India, saying he has “many very good friends” leading the country. He added that India is a “wonderful nation” and expressed appreciation for its leadership.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, acknowledged awareness of the controversial post. Responding briefly, he said, “We have seen such reports,” without offering further comment.
The incident has drawn attention to Trump’s messaging on international partners, particularly in relation to major countries like India and China.
