Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes at Miami Airport, Killing Five

A cargo plane operated for Amazon crashed after overshooting the runway while landing at Miami International Airport in Florida on Sunday, killing at least five people and injuring five others.

The accident occurred at around 2 p.m. local time, authorities said.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said Flight 7958, operated by 21 Air as Prime Air, ran off the runway after arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Boeing 767-300 cargo aircraft struck several vehicles after leaving the runway and subsequently caught fire.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Ray Jadallah said 10 people were affected in the incident. Three of the injured were in critical condition and were taken to trauma centers, while two others were transported to local hospitals.

More than 60 fire-rescue units responded to the scene to battle the blaze and assist with rescue operations.

Following the crash, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a ground stop for arriving flights at Miami International Airport. All runways and taxiways at the airport were also temporarily closed.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched investigations into the cause of the crash. Amazon said it was working with local authorities to investigate the incident.
