President Donald Trump on Friday criticized his predecessor Barack Obama for receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, alleging Obama won the award for “doing nothing” and accusing the Nobel Committee of rewarding a leader who “destroyed the country.”

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump contrasted his own foreign-policy claims — including brokering agreements he says ended “eight wars” and helped secure peace in Gaza — with Obama’s 2009 Nobel recognition. Trump said he did not seek the prize for personal acclaim but framed his actions as life‑saving.

“He got it for doing nothing,” Trump said of Obama. “He didn’t even know why he was chosen. They gave it to him for destroying our country and nothing else.”

Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 after eight months in office — a selection that drew surprise and debate at the time. Trump repeated longstanding criticisms about that decision while defending his own record, saying, “I stopped eight wars — things that never happened before — and I didn’t do it for awards. I did it because I saved many lives.”

Trump’s remarks came hours before the announcement of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize. Reiterating his view of the Nobel Committee’s selections, he expressed frustration but accepted that the committee will “do what they do.”

The White House comments underscore persistent partisan disputes over the meaning and timing of Nobel recognitions and highlight how international honors are folded into domestic political rhetoric.
