A Bangladeshi restaurant worker was killed and another Bangladeshi man was injured in a shooting at a fast-food restaurant in Brooklyn, New York, early Sunday morning.

The victim was identified by Bangladeshi community sources as Yusuf Raju, 44, from Kangshanagar village in Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali, Bangladesh. He was shot in the head inside American Best Wings & Pizza on Rockaway Avenue in the Brownsville neighborhood. He was taken to One Brooklyn Health–Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The second victim, a 39-year-old Bangladeshi man identified in local reports as Rasel, was shot in the right leg. He was also taken to Brookdale Hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.

Police said the shooting occurred shortly after midnight at the restaurant, located at 842 Rockaway Avenue near Newport Street. Both victims were employees of the restaurant, according to the restaurant's owner and local reports.

According to Bangladeshi community sources cited by local media, the shooting may have followed an argument with a customer who allegedly attempted to leave without paying his bill. Raju and Rasel reportedly confronted the customer, who then pulled out a gun and fired several shots before fleeing. Police have not publicly confirmed that account or announced a motive.

No arrests had been made as of Sunday, and the New York Police Department was continuing its investigation. Police were also reviewing surveillance footage in an effort to identify the shooter.

Raju's death has brought grief to his family and community in Noakhali. His family has appealed for assistance from Bangladeshi authorities in bringing his remains back to Bangladesh, according to reports from the Bangladeshi expatriate community.

The shooting came amid a violent weekend in Brooklyn. On Friday night, a 27-year-old man was fatally shot in East New York in what police were investigating as a possible road-rage-related dispute. Earlier Wednesday, a 17-year-old boy was also fatally shot in East New York. Police subsequently released surveillance images of two people sought in connection with the latter killing.
