US President Donald Trump has declared the beginning of a “Golden Age of America” as he marked the first year of his return to the White House, touting what he described as a dramatic national turnaround.
In his annual State of the Union address before Congress, Trump said he had inherited a “dead” country but had transformed it into the world’s most “attractive” nation. According to NDTV, the president portrayed his first year back in office as one of unprecedented achievement.
Opening his speech before lawmakers at the United States Capitol, Trump said, “Members of Congress and my fellow Americans, our nation is back — bigger, better, more prosperous and stronger than ever before.” He added, “One year ago we were a dead country; now we are the most attractive country anywhere in the world.”
Trump addressed issues including inflation, gas prices and employment, asserting that “the state of our Union is strong.” He claimed that while less than $1 trillion in new investment entered the United States during the previous administration’s four years, he had secured more than $18 trillion in investment commitments in just 12 months.
The president said his administration was building an America where every child could reach greater heights, where government would be accountable to the people rather than the powerful, and where the interests of hardworking citizens would come first. Referring to the country’s upcoming 250th anniversary, he said, “This is the promise we must protect.”
Trump sharply criticized Democrats for opposing his economic agenda, saying Republicans had passed what he described as the largest tax cut in American history, while “every single Democrat” voted against it.
He also blamed Democrats for rising healthcare costs, accusing them of enriching insurance companies through the Affordable Care Act. Trump said he wanted to end payments to large insurers and instead give funds directly to citizens so they could purchase healthcare coverage themselves at lower cost.
At 79, Trump used the prime-time platform to highlight what he characterized as rapid and historic achievements during a deeply polarized political climate. Despite polls suggesting that both he and the Republican Party are trailing ahead of the midterm elections — raising concerns about potentially losing their narrow House majority to Democrats — Trump maintained a defiant tone.
“Tonight, just one year later, I can proudly say we have achieved a transformation like never before,” he said, calling it a turnaround that would be remembered for generations.
