President Donald Trump has rescheduled his high-stakes visit to China, citing the ongoing conflict in the Middle East as the primary reason for the delay.
Originally planned for April, President Trump announced on social media this Thursday (March 26) that he will now visit Beijing on May 14 and 15. This marks his first trip to China in eight years since 2017.
Following the Beijing summit, Trump intends to invite President Xi Jinping to Washington for a reciprocal visit. The core objective of the mission is to stabilize diplomatic ties in the Asia-Pacific region. However, the agenda has now expanded to include critical discussions on global oil security in the Strait of Hormuz, the Iran war, and de-escalating tensions over Taiwan. Bilateral trade cooperation in the agricultural and aviation sectors is also expected to be on the table. While the White House is finalizing preparations, the Chinese embassy has yet to release an official detailed statement regarding the rescheduled dates.
