New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani attended Eid-ul-Azha prayers in a unique style this year, wearing a Panjabi inspired by the away jersey colors of his favorite football club, Arsenal.

On Wednesday local time, Mamdani joined worshippers for Eid prayers in the Bronx. His appearance drew attention just days after Arsenal secured the English Premier League title — the club’s first league championship in 22 years.

In an interview with a media outlet last year, Mamdani said he has supported Arsenal since childhood. He explained that he became an Arsenal fan after being inspired by a relative.

Following the prayers, Mamdani shared an Eid message on social media platform X.

“Today we remember Prophet Ibrahim (AS). Eid-ul-Azha reminds us that sacrifice is not a burden. It is an opportunity to see ourselves as part of something greater,” he wrote.

Mamdani also said he felt deeply honored to serve as New York City’s first Muslim mayor. He added that his administration is working to ensure that every resident of the city can afford basic necessities, housing, and childcare expenses.
