In a massive push to retain Republican control of Congress in the 2026 US midterm elections, tech billionaire Elon Musk has contributed over $276 million to conservative groups since July.
The latest disclosures bring his total political spending for the current election cycle to approximately $366 million, establishing him as the largest individual political donor in the nation. Campaign finance records reveal that $158 million of the new funding was allocated to the Senate Leadership Fund aligned with Senate Majority Leader John Thune, while $20 million was funneled into House Speaker Mike Johnson’s Congressional Leadership Fund and $76 million into Musk’s own America PAC.
The unprecedented financial backing has heightened scrutiny over Musk’s political and business dealings. House Democrats have called for formal investigations into government contracts awarded to SpaceX and his administrative leadership role under President Donald Trump. Additional contributions include $10 million toward Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s close Senate race. Despite massive funding injections into key swing states and competitive House districts, Democrats continue to make gains, leaving the balance of power in Washington closely contested.
