NEWS DESKBangladesh has been elected as the President of UNESCO's 43rd Conference, defeating Japan by a narrow margin of 30-27 votes. The announcement was made by the country's Cultural Advisor, Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, in a post on his Facebook account on Tuesday night.
In his post, Farooki shared that alongside Bangladesh and Japan, South Korea and India had also competed for the president's position. However, in the final stages of the election, both South Korea and India withdrew their candidacies.
The 43rd UNESCO Conference is scheduled to be held from October 30 to November 13.
