There is no reality in holding a referendum on the same day as the national election, said Professor Mujibur Rahman, Nayebe Ameer (Deputy Chief) of Jamaat-e-Islami.

He made the remarks while addressing a workers’ rally in Pallabi, Dhaka, on Friday (October 31).

At the same time, he emphasized the need for administrative reforms and the trial of fascist collaborators to ensure a free and fair election through a transparent process.
Speaking about election system reform, Mujibur Rahman said that there is no alternative to the proportional representation (PR) system to permanently stop election rigging.
He alleged, “Those who do not value people’s votes are now trying to sabotage the referendum.” He further said, “There is no practicality in holding a referendum on the day of the national election.”
For the country’s democratic transition, he outlined a specific roadmap. Mujibur Rahman said, “First reform the judiciary, then hold the national election.” He stressed that no election would be acceptable without a cleansing campaign in the administration.
“Those in the administration who were collaborators of fascism cannot be allowed to remain there. Those who prolonged fascism by supporting fascists must also be brought to justice to prevent its resurgence,” added Mujibur Rahman.
Expressing his commitment to approach voters with love, he said they would move forward with positive politics, avoiding any conflict or provocation from political opponents.
“We will not respond to insults with insults. We will approach the voters with love.”
He expressed hope, saying, “Just as the students did not reject us in the DUCSU and CUCSU elections, the people will not reject us in the upcoming national election either.”
