Similar to the previous year, the government has decided to waive the excise duty on airfares for Hajj pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia this year as well.
The decision was made at a meeting of the Advisory Council today (13 November), according to officials.
Sources at the National Board of Revenue (NBR) said a gazette notification regarding the exemption will be issued next week.
According to NBR officials, if the excise duty is waived for both outbound and return flights, each pilgrim will save a total of Tk5,000-Tk2,500 per route.
