Bangladesh and Qatar have signed a military assistance cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening defence ties between the two nations. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate disclosed the development in a press release issued on Sunday (16 November).
According to the release, members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces will now be eligible for deployment within the Qatari Armed Forces. As part of the initial phase, 800 Bangladeshi military personnel have already been assigned to serve in Qatar.
Officials say the agreement will elevate defence cooperation between Bangladesh and Qatar to a new level.
The agreement was signed on behalf of Bangladesh by the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, Lieutenant General SM Kamrul Hassan. Lieutenant General (Pilot) Jassim bin Mohammed Al Mannai, Chief of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces, signed on behalf of Qatar.
