EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed the directive on Saturday, stating that the government has officially informed the commission that conducting the referendum falls under the EC’s responsibility.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A. M. M. Nasiruddin recently said the commission would take further decisions regarding the referendum once a formal directive was received from the government.
The EC is planning to announce the election schedule in the first half of December, with voting expected in the first half of February.
