Sharif Osman Hadi, the spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho and a prospective independent candidate for Dhaka-8, who was shot in the capital’s Bijoynagar area, has been placed on life support. The information was confirmed by the office of the director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

A little after 4:00 pm today, when the hospital’s director, Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman, was contacted over phone, his office asked about the reason for the inquiry. When asked about Hadi’s condition, the office said he was in a critical state. He has been put on life support, and the bullet remains lodged inside his head.

Earlier around midday, Hadi was shot in the Box Culvert area of Bijoynagar. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in severely injured condition.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Talebur Rahman of the Media and Public Relations Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police told that at 2:25 pm, miscreants arrived on a motorcycle and fired at Hadi.

Md Rafi, who was in the rickshaw behind Hadi at the time, described the incident.
He said, “After Juma prayers, we were heading toward the High Court. We were in rickshaws. As soon as we reached Bijoynagar, two men on a motorcycle approached and opened fire on Hadi bhai and fled. I was in the rickshaw behind him.”

Meanwhile, Interim Government Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus expressed deep concern over the shooting that left Osman Hadi critically injured.

The Chief Adviser also issued strict instructions to law enforcement agencies to conduct a swift and thorough investigation and identify all those involved in the attack and bring them under the law.
