Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and a prospective candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, has passed away while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital. The organization confirmed his death in a Facebook post on Thursday night, 18 December.
In its statement, Inqilab Mancha said, “May Allah accept the great revolutionary Osman Hadi as a martyr for standing against Indian hegemony.” His death has triggered widespread grief and reactions across political circles and beyond.
Earlier this month, Osman Hadi was shot during an election-related public outreach programme after Friday prayers in the capital’s Bijoynagar area. He was initially rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition and later transferred to Singapore for advanced treatment. After remaining on life support in the intensive care unit for an extended period, he eventually succumbed to his injuries despite repeated medical efforts.
Osman Hadi was one of the most prominent faces of Inqilab Mancha and was known as a vocal speaker in recent political movements. The attack on him sparked nationwide debate and renewed concerns over political violence and public security.
Following his death, supporters and various political groups have demanded a fair investigation and strict punishment of those responsible.
