Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has urged people to move toward the future without repeatedly delving into the past. He made the call on Thursday (19 December) while speaking at an exchange meeting with journalists working in Bangla media outlets in London.

At the beginning of his speech, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman expressed deep sorrow over the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha, and demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible for the killing.

The Jamaat Ameer said, “I request that we reduce our obsession with the past. A nation that excessively dwells on the past has no future. We want to move forward with hope for the future.”

Calling on India to act in a neighbourly manner, he said, “India is our friendly country. We also want India to fulfil its responsibilities as a friend. The Indian government should hand over all identified, absconding and convicted individuals to Bangladesh.”

Speaking about the 13th National Parliamentary Election, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “If Jamaat wins the election, we are hopeful that BNP will accept the results. Likewise, if BNP wins, Jamaat will not only accept it but will also extend full cooperation.”

He also called on expatriates to participate in postal voting and urged them to return home during the election period to exercise their voting rights.

During the event, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman spoke on various political and contemporary issues.
