Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman has said the force will continue operations with "full strength" until the prime accused in the murder of Inqilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi are arrested.
Speaking at a press conference at the RAB Media Centre in Karwan Bazar today (4 January), the RAB chief said steps would be taken to apprehend the two main suspects – Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Sheikh – even if they have fled to India.
He added that there are multiple ways to bring them back once their whereabouts are confirmed.
He also stated that the elite force has so far arrested eight accused and recovered two pistols used in the murder.
Shahidur Rahman further said, "We are trying to ascertain Faisal's whereabouts – whether through technological means or human intelligence. Once his location is confirmed, the arrest process will follow. In cases where a suspect crosses the border, we have established procedures, including an extradition treaty with our neighbouring country, to bring them back."
He went on to day, "We will continue working with full strength until they are arrested. We remain hopeful of bringing them to justice."
Earlier on 28 December last year, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police admitted that Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Sheikh have fled to India.
On 12 December, Hadi was critically injured after he was shot in the head in broad daylight in Dhaka's Paltan area.
He was later taken to a hospital in Singapore for advanced treatment, where he died on 18 December.
Hadi's funeral was held 20 December at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad, with hundreds of thousands of people in attendance.
Since his death, supporters of Inqilab Mancha have been holding protests across the country, demanding the swift arrest of those responsible and accountability for alleged negligence by law enforcement agencies.
