Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has pledged that his party will not introduce what he described as “humiliating unemployment allowances,” but will instead create opportunities for “dignified employment,” if voted to power.

He made the remarks on Monday while addressing an election rally in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar.

“Insha’Allah, we will provide honorable jobs. One of the potential hubs for such employment is Maheshkhali and Kutubdia,” Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said. Referring to the Matarbari Deep Sea Port, he expressed confidence that the area could be developed into a global-standard trade and industrial hub, even surpassing ports such as Singapore or Hong Kong in quality and efficiency.

Criticizing the country’s political leadership, the Jamaat chief said that building the future of Bangladesh is not possible with what he termed “decayed leadership.” He added that Jamaat seeks to replace what he described as “rotten, sack-based politics” with a new political culture.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman also promised to protect and modernize the salt industry, a long-standing demand of the people of Cox’s Bazar, if Jamaat comes to power.

Emphasizing national unity, he said his party would work to build a united Bangladesh, not a divided one, and claimed that the country would undergo a major transformation starting from the 13th, marking the emergence of what he called a “new Bangladesh.”

During the rally, top leaders of the 11-party alliance urged voters to cast their ballots in favor of the “Scales” symbol as well as the “Yes” vote.
