Section 144 has been imposed in the Jamuna area, the official residence of the Chief Adviser, following clashes between police and protesting government employees. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali confirmed the decision on Friday afternoon.

Earlier in the morning, government employees from various ministries and departments gathered at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka, demanding the publication and swift implementation of a gazette for the 9th pay scale. After a brief rally, the protesters marched toward the Chief Adviser’s official residence, Jamuna.

Around 11:00 am, police set up barricades on the road beside Hotel InterContinental to stop the procession. When the protesters attempted to break through the barricade and move forward, police intervened, leading to pushing and shoving between the two sides. The situation soon escalated into clashes.

To disperse the protesters and bring the situation under control, police fired tear gas shells and used water cannons and sound grenades, forcing the procession to scatter. However, a short while later, the protesters regrouped and again attempted to advance toward Jamuna, resulting in several rounds of clashes.

From around 11:30 am onwards, intermittent clashes continued on the road leading to the Chief Adviser’s residence. Police repeatedly used tear gas, water cannons, and sound grenades to control the situation.

Amid the tense situation, DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali rushed to the spot and announced the imposition of Section 144 in the Jamuna area.
