Tarique Rahman Sworn In as Bangladesh’s 11th Prime Minister

Tarique Rahman, Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), was sworn in as the 11th Prime Minister of Bangladesh on Tuesday.

At 4:00 p.m. Bangladesh Standard Time, President Md. Sahabuddin administered the oath of office to Tarique Rahman at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building.

A large number of domestic and international guests attended the swearing-in ceremony, including representatives from various South Asian countries.

This time, instead of the traditional venue at Bangabhaban, the oath-taking ceremony for the Prime Minister and members of the Cabinet was held at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building.

Earlier in the morning, the Chief Election Commissioner, A M M Nasir Uddin, administered the oath to the newly elected Members of Parliament at the National Parliament Building.

Earlier this month, on February 12, the 13th National Parliamentary Election was held. According to the Election Commission gazette, out of 297 seats, the BNP won 209 seats and Jamaat-e-Islami secured 68 seats. Additionally, the National Citizens Party (NCP) won six seats and independent candidates won seven seats.

Results for two constituencies were not announced due to court orders, and elections in one constituency were not held due to the death of a candidate.
