The crescent moon marking the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan has been sighted in Bangladesh, meaning fasting will commence nationwide on Thursday.
Devout Muslims across the country will begin preparations from Wednesday night, offering Salat al-Taraweeh prayers in mosques as the month of fasting begins.
The announcement was made on Wednesday evening following a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held at the Islamic Foundation auditorium of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital.
The meeting was chaired by Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaykobad. After reviewing reports from district administrations, meteorological authorities, and other relevant bodies, the committee confirmed the sighting of the Ramadan moon.
With the official declaration, mosques across Bangladesh have begun special prayers and preparations to welcome the holy month. Muslims will observe fasting, nightly Taraweeh prayers, and increased acts of worship throughout Ramadan.
