Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has extended his heartfelt greetings to people of all linguistic backgrounds and ethnic groups worldwide on the occasion of Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day 2026. He conveyed this message in a statement issued on Friday (February 20).

Paying profound tribute to the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement, the Prime Minister stated, "The movement to protect the dignity of our mother tongue did not only establish linguistic rights but also strengthened the foundation of Bengali autonomy, democracy, and cultural consciousness. Our glorious independence was achieved through the blood-stained path of Ekushey."

The Prime Minister emphasized that democratic values and the rights of the people were the core spirits of Ekushey. He remarked, "After a long struggle, democracy has been re-established in the country. Inspired by the aspirations of the language martyrs, the heroes of the 1971 Liberation War, and the martyrs of the 2024 movement to protect independence, we are committed to building a self-reliant, safe, and humane democratic nation."

Concluding his message, the Prime Minister called upon everyone to ensure the correct use of the Bengali language at all levels and to preserve global linguistic diversity. He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls of all language martyrs and wished success for all programs scheduled for the day.
