The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Shafiqur Rahman, paid tribute to the Language Movement martyrs at the Central Shaheed Minar in the early hours of Great Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day.
At 12:22am on Friday, Dr. Rahman placed a wreath at the altar of the Shaheed Minar to honor the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the recognition of Bangla as a state language.
He was accompanied by Opposition Whip and Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) Nahid Islam, NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, and top leaders of the 11-party electoral alliance led by Jamaat.
After laying wreaths, they stood in solemn tribute and offered prayers seeking eternal peace for the souls of the language martyrs.
