The main accused shooter in the killing of Inquilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Osman Bin Hadi—Faisal Karim Masud—and his associate Alamgir Hossain have been arrested in India’s West Bengal.
The arrests were confirmed on Sunday in a statement by the West Bengal Police Special Task Force (STF).
According to the statement, the STF received intelligence from confidential sources that two Bangladeshi nationals involved in serious crimes—including extortion and murder in Bangladesh—had fled the country and entered India illegally. They were reportedly trying to take shelter in the border area of Bongaon and might attempt to return to Bangladesh if the opportunity arose.
Based on this information, the West Bengal STF conducted an operation and detained the two suspects. They were identified as Rahul, also known as Faisal Karim Masud (37) from Patuakhali and Alamgir Hossain (34) from Dhaka.
According to preliminary interrogation cited in the statement, the suspects allegedly killed Sharif Osman Hadi in Dhaka before fleeing the country. They reportedly entered India illegally through the Meghalaya border and had been hiding in different locations across India. Recently, they came to the Bongaon area intending to cross back into Bangladesh.
Both suspects were arrested late Saturday night in Bongaon. A specific case has been filed at the STF police station, and they have been produced before a competent court. Police have taken them into custody for further investigation.
However, multiple police sources in West Bengal and local journalists claim the two suspects were actually arrested earlier—on December 29 last year in Bongaon—but the authorities only officially acknowledged the arrest recently. Officials from several investigative agencies in Bangladesh have also indicated that they had prior information suggesting the suspects had already been detained earlier.
