Bangladesh Foreign Minister Leads Delegation at 26th Commonwealth Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in London

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman led the country’s delegation at the 26th Commonwealth Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in London.

Foreign ministers from 56 member states attended the conference, where discussions focused on strengthening multilateral cooperation and preparing for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) scheduled for later this year.

The meeting took place on Sunday at Lancaster House in London. Foreign ministers and senior representatives from Commonwealth countries exchanged views on current global challenges and the future direction of the organization.

According to a press release issued on Monday by the Bangladesh High Commission in London, the Bangladesh delegation, led by Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, also includes the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir and other senior government officials.

Participants discussed the current global situation, particularly the erosion of the rules-based international order and the growing challenges facing global institutions and established norms.

They also explored ways to enhance the role of the Commonwealth in addressing emerging global challenges and strengthening cooperation among member states to promote shared prosperity.

During the meeting, participants also discussed the agenda and policy priorities for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, which is scheduled to take place in Antigua and Barbuda from November 1 to 4.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Bangladesh delegation is expected to hold bilateral meetings with foreign ministers and senior officials from several participating countries.

Diplomatic sources said the conference is being viewed as a significant opportunity for Bangladesh to garner international support for its candidacy to preside over the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for the 20
