Bangladesh and the United Kingdom have discussed ways to strengthen cooperation across several sectors, including investment in the blue economy, promotion of the “Made in Bangladesh” brand, and expanded collaboration in education.
According to the Bangladesh High Commission in London, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and the Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir held a bilateral meeting with UK Minister of State for Trade Sir Chris Bryant in London on Tuesday.
During the meeting, both sides highlighted the importance of creating investment opportunities in Bangladesh’s blue economy sector, promoting the “Made in Bangladesh” brand globally, protecting investors’ interests, increasing cooperation in the education sector, and expanding broader multilateral collaboration.
Ahead of the 14th World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference scheduled to be held in Cameroon later this month, both sides agreed to maintain close communication and coordination.
UK Trade Envoy to Bangladesh, Baroness Rosie Winterton, also met Dr. Khalilur Rahman and Humayun Kabir at the Bangladesh High Commission in London.
During the meeting, they discussed potential cooperation in the aviation sector and explored steps to develop Bangladesh into a regional aviation hub. The visiting Bangladeshi delegation held two separate meetings aimed at advancing the country’s aviation sector.
Meanwhile, Professor Dapo Akande, the British candidate for a judgeship at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the 2027–2036 term, met with the foreign minister and the adviser to seek Bangladesh’s support.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the existing cooperation between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom in various international forums and elections. They also reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening this partnership in international legal and diplomatic arenas in the future.
