The United States Embassy in Dhaka has stated that the length of stay for international travelers in the United States is not determined by the validity of their visa. Instead, the duration is decided by an immigration officer at the time of entry.
In a message issued on Saturday, the embassy noted that many people mistakenly believe they can remain in the United States as long as their visitor visa (B1/B2) is valid. However, this assumption is incorrect.
The statement explained that upon entry into the United States, travelers are assigned an “admit until date” either in their passport or in their online I-94 record. This date indicates the final day they are authorized to stay in the country.
The embassy also advised travelers to check their I-94 record online to confirm their permitted length of stay.
