For the first time, Maulana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) has secured a place in the prestigious Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2026. According to the list published on April 23, the university has been ranked in the 601–800 band.
With this position, MBSTU is jointly ranked fifth among universities in Bangladesh. Its debut performance is considered particularly significant, as a total of 19 Bangladeshi universities were included in this year’s rankings.
Other public universities in the same band include Khulna University, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Military Institute of Science and Technology, and University of Chittagong. Among cluster-based institutions, MBSTU holds the second position.
According to the published indicators, MBSTU scored 16.7 in teaching, 10.6 in research environment, 57.3 in research quality, 19.6 in industry income, and 46.8 in international outlook. Its overall score ranges between 23.3 and 30.8. Notably, the university ranked ninth nationally in the international outlook category.
Vice-Chancellor Anwarul Azim Akhand described the achievement as a stepping stone, stating that the university aims to advance further through unity, hard work, and innovation. He also congratulated faculty members, students, and staff for their contributions and expressed optimism about maintaining this momentum.
At the top of the rankings in Bangladesh are Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and University of Dhaka. Meanwhile, Asia’s top position has once again been secured by Tsinghua University, marking its eighth consecutive year at number one, followed by Peking University.
The Times Higher Education rankings evaluate universities based on multiple criteria, including teaching quality, research environment, research impact, industry income, and international outlook.
