Bangladesh and Pakistan Sign Landmark MoU to Combat Drug Trafficking

In a significant move to strengthen regional security, Bangladesh and Pakistan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to prevent the illegal trafficking and abuse of narcotics.

The agreement was signed on Friday (May 8) at Hotel InterContinental in Dhaka by Bangladesh's Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and Pakistan's Home Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi. This collaboration aims to curb drug smuggling and associated money laundering through mutual technical support and intelligence sharing.

Under this 10-year agreement, both nations will exchange real-time information regarding drug trafficking organizations (DTOs), concealment methods, and suspicious entities. Key aspects of the MoU include joint "controlled delivery" operations, advanced training programs for narcotics officers, and sharing expertise in using sniffer dogs and detection technology. The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) of Bangladesh and the ANF of Pakistan will serve as the primary focal points. Both ministers emphasized that this partnership is a crucial step toward ensuring public health and safeguarding the citizens of both countries.
