The body of Bangladeshi student Nahida Sultana Brishti, who was allegedly murdered in the United States while pursuing higher education, was laid to rest in her hometown of Madaripur on Saturday amid scenes of deep grief and mourning.

Brishti’s dismembered body arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday morning local time before being taken to her ancestral home in Char Gobindapur village under Madaripur Sadar upazila.

Hundreds of relatives, neighbors, friends, and well-wishers gathered at the family home to pay their last respects to the young student, whose tragic death has shocked the community.

According to family members and local sources, Brishti and fellow student Jamil Ahmed Limon were allegedly abducted and killed on April 16 following a dispute involving an American roommate while they were studying in the United States. Police later recovered Brishti’s body on April 30.

Family members demanded justice for the killing, describing Brishti as a bright and cheerful young woman with dreams of building a better future through education abroad.

“We cannot accept such a brutal death. We want proper justice,” said her cousin Jabin Mariam.

Her father, Jahir Uddin Akon, said he never imagined his daughter would return home in a coffin after leaving the country with hopes and aspirations.

Following funeral prayers, Brishti was buried beside her grandparents’ graves at the family cemetery.

The tragic incident has left the entire area in mourning and renewed concerns over the safety of international students abroad.
