Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir on Sunday, where both sides discussed strengthening the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Italy and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon, Dhaka.
During the discussions, both sides emphasized enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, culture, sports and migration.
According to sources at the meeting, Ambassador Antonio Alessandro expressed Italy’s strong interest in importing more quality products from Bangladesh, including ready-made garments, food items, leather and leather goods.
The two sides also held productive discussions on exploring new avenues for expanding bilateral trade.
In addition, the Italian Embassy encouraged Bangladesh to purchase advanced technology and industrial machinery from Italy to support the modernization of Bangladesh’s industrial sector.
Cultural and sports ties between the two countries also received special attention during the meeting. As part of efforts to deepen sporting relations, renowned Italian football clubs were invited to visit Bangladesh and play friendly matches.
Both parties also stressed the importance of increasing people-to-people contact and strengthening cultural exchanges between the two nations.
The meeting further discussed expanding ongoing cooperation between Bangladesh and Italy to facilitate safer and more regular migration management.
At the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to taking Bangladesh-Italy relations to a new height and expressed optimism that cooperation in trade, defense, culture, sports and migration would continue to grow in the future.
Deputy Head of Mission of the Italian Embassy Federico Jamperelli was also present at the meeting.
