Nasiruddin Patwari, the chief organizer of the National Citizen Party (NCP), was egged and physically assaulted following a targeted attack outside the Old Collectorate Mosque in Jhenaidah.
The incident, which took place on Friday afternoon after the Jummah prayers, reportedly left at least six people injured. Confirming the incident through a Facebook post, the NCP leader claimed that as he emerged from the mosque opposite the Deputy Commissioner's residence after a pre-scheduled program, a group belonging to Chhatra Dal and Juba Dal launched an unprovoked attack in the presence of police officers. He alleged that the attackers pelted them with eggs and bricks before resorting to batons, causing severe head injuries to three of his companions. Patwari also accused them of mugging personal belongings and stated they were preparing to file a formal case.
Contrarily, the opposition student wing has strongly denied any involvement in the assault. Sahed Ahmed, the convenor of the Islamic University unit of Chhatra Dal, asserted that their political activists had no connection to the commotion, stating that agitated local residents were the ones who threw eggs at Nasiruddin Patwari. Commenting on the ongoing situation, Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station OC Asaduzzaman confirmed that while Patwari had visited the police station, no written complaint had been officially lodged yet. He further assured that the situation remains fully under control, with additional police forces deployed across key strategic points in the city to maintain order.
