The budget session of Bangladesh's 13th National Parliament commenced on Sunday, marking the beginning of the legislative process for the country's fiscal year 2026–27 national budget.

The session was convened by President Mohammed Shahabuddin and is being chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.

According to the Parliament Secretariat, all necessary administrative and procedural preparations were completed following the issuance of the presidential order convening the session.

The session has been summoned under Article 72(1) of the Constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, which empowers the President to call Parliament into session.

Budget Presentation and Approval Process

The primary focus of the budget session will be the presentation, debate, and passage of the national budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year.

Lawmakers are expected to engage in detailed discussions on the government's proposed spending plans, revenue measures, development priorities, and broader economic strategy for the coming year.

The budget is anticipated to outline the government's development agenda and economic objectives, serving as a key policy document for the next fiscal cycle.

Annual Parliamentary Tradition

In Bangladesh, Parliament traditionally convenes a special session in June each year to consider the national budget. The session, commonly referred to as the "budget session," provides members of parliament with an opportunity to scrutinize and debate government financial proposals before final approval.

The upcoming discussions are expected to cover a wide range of issues, including economic growth, public expenditure, infrastructure development, social welfare programs, and fiscal management.

Previous Session

The first session of the 13th National Parliament began on March 12 and concluded on April 30.

The current budget session represents the second sitting of the 13th Parliament and is expected to play a central role in shaping Bangladesh's economic policies and development priorities for the 2026–27 fiscal year.
