A Chinese delegation is expected to visit Bangladesh within the next two months to assess the potential for establishing industries in the country’s northern region, according to Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Speaking at an event held at Shaheed Mohammad Ali Stadium in Thakurgaon district on Friday, the minister expressed optimism that potential Chinese investment and industrial development would help accelerate economic activity and create employment opportunities in the region. Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen was also present at the event.
Alamgir said industrialization remains essential for sustaining economic growth and expanding job opportunities across the country. He noted that the government is actively working to promote the establishment of new industries in different regions of Bangladesh.
“We want to build industries in the country. Thakurgaon and the surrounding areas have significant potential for industrial development,” the minister said.
He further emphasized that national progress cannot depend solely on external assistance. According to him, long-term development requires strengthening domestic capabilities, expanding education, and fostering a culture of hard work.
Referring to China’s economic transformation, Alamgir said the country had become one of the world’s leading economic powers through its own efforts, skilled workforce, and productive economic activities.
Addressing the gathering, Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening its cooperative relationship with Bangladesh and expanding bilateral engagement in trade, investment, and development.
The ambassador said a Chinese delegation is expected to visit the region in July or August this year to inspect potential areas for cooperation and investment. The delegation will reportedly assess opportunities for industrial projects and explore ways to enhance economic collaboration between the two countries.
The planned visit is being viewed as a positive step toward attracting foreign investment to northern Bangladesh, a region that has long sought greater industrial development and employment-generating initiatives.
