Bangladesh Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed is set to travel to Tehran to attend the state funeral of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The visit will be made at the invitation of Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
According to a source at Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghalibaf formally invited Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed to participate in the funeral ceremonies. In response to the invitation, the Speaker will travel to Tehran to attend the state funeral and offer condolences on behalf of Bangladesh.
Confirming the visit, Shayrul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP Media Cell, said the state funeral and funeral prayers for the late Iranian leader will be held from July 4 to July 9 in Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad.
He added that Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed will represent the Government of Bangladesh and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the funeral ceremonies.
According to the information provided, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a joint United States-Israeli military strike in February.
