The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has appointed Steven Rodrigues as its new Resident Representative in Bangladesh, succeeding outgoing Resident Representative Stefan Liller.
In his new role, Rodrigues will lead all UNDP operations in Bangladesh and work closely with the government and development partners to support the country's sustainable development agenda.
According to UNDP, he will collaborate with the Government of Bangladesh, development partners, civil society organizations, the private sector and local communities to accelerate inclusive development, strengthen disaster resilience and advance progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Commenting on his appointment, Rodrigues said it was a privilege to serve Bangladesh through UNDP and contribute to the country's development journey.
"It is a great honour to have the opportunity to contribute to Bangladesh's development journey as UNDP Resident Representative. I look forward to working closely with the Government of Bangladesh, the people of this country and our development partners to build on our past achievements and develop new sustainable and inclusive solutions that directly improve people's lives," he said.
A Jamaican national, Rodrigues brings more than three decades of experience in international development and public policy. Before assuming his post in Bangladesh, he served as UNDP Resident Representative in Afghanistan, Liberia and Rwanda, and as Deputy Country Director in Indonesia. He has also held several other senior positions within UNDP.
