8 Workers Killed, 13 Injured in Toxic Gas Leak at Chittagong Shipyard

A fatal toxic gas leak inside a ship recycling yard in Sitakunda, Chittagong, claimed the lives of eight workers and left thirteen others critically ill on Friday morning.

The industrial accident occurred at the Ferdous Steel Ship Recycling Industries yard located in the Bhatiari area.

According to fire service officials and hospital sources, several workers inhaled toxic gas fumes while working inside a vessel compartment, quickly losing consciousness. First responders recovered three bodies directly from the scene.

Five additional workers were pronounced dead upon arrival at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Authorities confirmed that thirteen surviving workers remain under emergency care, with several listed in critical condition.
